HLN were commissioned by General Electric Aircraft Engine Services (GEAES) to design a new centre dedicated to the repair and overhaul of aircraft engines. In particular the GE90 (the world’s most powerful aircraft engine) and is now one of the world’s largest aircraft engine test facilities.

Located in Natgarw, South Wales the £5m project comprises of 7,200m² Workshop area, 340m² admin/control centre and a 2,3000m² engine testing bed designed to accommodate engines with thrust capabilities of up to 150,000lb and airflows of up to 10,000lb/s, and is the only facility in the U.K designed to ground run the GE90 under the full range of flight parameters.

Great attention was paid to acoustics when designing the facility, which features a cavity wall system that measures 10.5 ft thick.
