HSBC Manchester, St Anne’s

Client: HSBC

Project Value:£5m

Contractor: NRS

Area: 1,950m²

Status: Completed

Located in the heart of Manchester’s retail area, this former Waterstone’s book store is ideally positioned for HSBC’s new store.

Covering some six floors the project involved the complete remodelling of the interior space to provide Retail, Premier and Business Banking areas. In addition the branch also provides a safe deposit facility.

Located within the St Anne’s Conservation area the planning department were particularly keen to see that the conversion provided a solution that allowed its change of use without detriment to its surroundings.

The design of the ground floor was of particular importance with all of the machine walls being located against the party wall to ensure maximum visibility into the unit. The exterior of the building was also given a complete renovation to further enhance its presence.

The branch was opened by Paul Thurston, HSBC’s Chief Executive Officer at the official launch in summer 2009.
