HLN is an award winning multi-disciplinary practice incorporating an innovative and experienced team of chartered Architects and Engineers with blue-chip clients in the commercial, education, healthcare, hotel & leisure, custodial, residential, manufacturing, retail and financial sectors, delivering high quality designs on project values from £50k to £50m.

HLN is seeking a dynamic and experienced structural engineers. This is a great opportunity for structural engineers seeking part-time/semi-retired/full-time work who still want to be active and enjoy working as part of a team of a well established multi-disciplinary practice, with the flexibility of working from home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structural Inspections: Conduct thorough structural inspections of existing buildings to assess their stability, integrity, and safety.
  • Measurement and Assessment: Accurately measure rooms, structural components, and building elements to determine their suitability for modification and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Load-Bearing Wall Analysis: Identify load-bearing walls within buildings and assess their capacity to accommodate modifications. Advise on necessary structural reinforcements.
  • Client Consultation: Collaborate closely with clients to understand their goals and requirements for room modifications and structural changes. Provide expert guidance on feasible solutions.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure all proposed modifications align with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards. Prepare necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Report Generation: Prepare detailed reports summarising structural assessments, recommended modifications, and estimated costs. Communicate findings clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • Project Management/Budget: Oversee the implementation of approved modifications, coordinating with contractors and ensuring work is completed to specifications and within budget.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with structural modifications and develop mitigation strategies to minimise them.


Requirements:

  • Chartered member of IStructE/ICE or near to being Chartered
  • Should be design-focused and have an affinity with good architecture and sustainability.
  • Able to carry out structural visual inspections and possess excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, regulations, and construction practices.
  • Proven experience as a structural engineer – 5 years minimum.
  • Strong proficiency in structural analysis software and measurement tools e.g. TEKLA Structural Designer, TEDDS etc as well as AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex information to clients and colleagues.
  • Project management skills to oversee modification projects from inception to completion.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and safety.

Architectural Technician/Project Lead – Residential

Location: Cardiff & Kidderminster

HLN Ltd, a RIBA chartered practice with offices based in Cardiff and Kidderminster, is seeking a dynamic and experienced architectural technician with residential experience. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of architectural services, exceptional project management abilities, and strong client relationship skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce drawings and documentation as required using REVIT and AutoCAD, independently and in collaboration with our technical team and the wider design team.
  • Be responsible for the preparation and coordination of detailed design and production information including drawings and documents for tender packages and construction drawings.
  • Produce specifications using NBS software and advise on use of materials and construction detailing.
  • Monitor quality and coordination of drawing information ensuring project delivery in line with programme. Ensure compliance with office quality standards.
  • Be responsible for the management of the project including health & safety and building legislation requirements along with day-to-day administration of the projects.
  • Contribute to the design and construction process.
  • Assist with site surveys when required.
  • Attend client meetings as required.
  • Attend design team meetings as required.
  • Follow company procedures including quality management, environmental management systems and health & safety.
  • Manage time effectively and identify any resource requirements.

Experience:

  • Working within the residential sector – 5 years minimum.

Key Account Manager and Technical Lead

HLN are looking for an experienced architectural technician / architect in our Cardiff office, to act as account manager for a long-established key client account.  HLN have a regional framework agreement with the client, covering Wales and Central UK. Work includes new build and refurbishment projects across multiple sites, from strategic planning to construction and completion.. The position involves oversight of a small team of staff and liaison with the Client, contractors, and consultant teams.  

The successful candidate will be able to communicate well with client and contractors and ensure the team deliver quality designs and technical information.  You should have a good knowledge of Building Regulations and the Planning System with a working knowledge of AutoCAD (use of Revit is ideal, but not essential). 


As Key Account Manager your role will include ensuring HLN are optimising available opportunities within the framework by establishing good client relationships and monitoring the framework portal.
