This project involved the design and delivery of new office and laboratory facilities for 3M’s Health Care Markets Division at Charnwood Campus, Loughborough, where HLN provided Architectural, Interior Design, Contract Administration, Structural Engineering and PD services.
3M’s primary aim was to relocate 210 office staff and 116 R+D laboratory staff from locations elsewhere in Loughborough to provide improved work and collaboration spaces for both employees and visitors.
The project was developed in two phases, the first focusing on the redevelopment of an existing office building at Charnwood Campus. The office building already benefited from a well-proportioned central atrium with a mix of open plan and cellular office space. Our design proposals for the project were to open up the floor plates to provide fully open plan office spaces, including informal meetings and collaboration.
A major redesign of the ground floor included a new suite of meeting rooms, a conference room and a new customer demonstration space to showcase and demonstrate 3M products to visitors. A new reception space has been introduced into the atrium along with a new staff café area.
The redesign of the laboratory building involved the reorganisation of laboratory and write-up space to suit 3M’s differing laboratory needs.
