This redevelopment of the Cheshunt Tesco Extra provided the store with a completely new face, as well as additional floor area.
The 145,000ft² store was originally built in the traditional ‘Essex Barn’ style, with a low oppressive canopy and limited glazing. The brick walls and tiled roof have been replaced with a contemporary face of glass to the front and a mix of glazing and clay rain screen cladding to the side.
A high level canopy is provided to the front to allow clear views into and out of the store and of course, allowing daylight in. The canopy structure also provides support for a brise soleil running the full length of the front elevation, adding a second layer of enclosure to the facade as well as providing sun shading.
