National Police Air Service
Client: Home Office
Contractor: Wates Construction
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) was formed under a National Collaboration Agreement between all police forces in England and Wales in October 2012 to provide a nationally managed, regionally organised air support service. NPAS is delivered through West Yorkshire Police as the lead force. NPAS Bournemouth was the first development of a new airbase under NPAS.
Providing both Architecture and Civil and Structural Engineering services to Wates Construction the scheme involved the construction of a new hangar and offices forming a strategically important air support base within the county of Dorset. The hangar space has been designed to accommodate two helicopters or one fixed wing aircraft and provides maintenance facilities. The accommodation block is the hub of the operation and has offices, training rooms as well as staff welfare facilities. Both buildings have been designed to meet the demountable and relocate-able intent of the project brief.
Design work commenced late December 2013 with the completed project being handed over to the client in July 2014.
