The proposed sixth form centre and refurbishment of the ‘stodge’ constitutes the final phases of development for a major capital expenditure programme to maintain Rugby School’s enviable International reputation for excellence.

A sensitive location with the site flanked by listed buildings and overlooking the historic playing fields of Rugby School offered an exciting and challenging opportunity. A bold statement was proposed that is respectful to its historic neighbours in terms of orientation, scale and massing whilst having a strength of presence to represent the school’s innovative approach to teaching and an instantly recognisable identity.

The new home for the teaching of Sixth Form subjects will enhance the focus of study in a creative, individual manner offering the students the opportunity for a great deal of autonomous investigation, research and cross circular understanding.

The refurbishment of the tuck shop and school social centre adds an extra dimension to the Sixth Form centre by offering greater flexibility in use to serve a wider range of purposes. A link space between the Sixth form centre and social area was also created, resulting in a new school reception.
